What is a yacht broker?

Over the years we have heard the same couple of questions come up. Within this section we wish to answer some of these as well as provide you an outline of the sales and purchase process. Let's call it "Yacht Brokerage 101"!

  • 1. What exactly does a yacht broker do?

    A yacht broker is someone who greatly assists in the buying and selling of a yacht boat. The simplest description would be that of an extremely hands on real estate agent for boats. We specialize in listing and selling as equally as we do in aiding in the finding and purchasing of a boat for our clients. We are not only experts in all things boats we also handle all of the closing, advertising, training, and market analysis.

  • 2. What qualities do I look for in a broker?

    A good yacht broker is a person who is well educated and experienced on an important variety of items closely related to the buying and selling of a yacht/boat. In addition to knowledge and experience they should be armed with the current tools as well as all necessary licenses, bonding and training. A good broker will stay current on market values and be extremely knowledgable on the inner workings of any boat that you may come across. Let's not forget the two biggest qualities - honesty and integrity.

  • 3. What can a broker do for me?

    A broker will find you the yacht/boat that best fits your needs.

    Sell your boat for you when it is time to move on or upgrade. Make sure that you are protected on the transaction both on the buying and the selling end of a transaction.

    Provide tons of real world experience to be an extremely valuable aid in the evaluation of any boat.

    Be there for all steps of the purchase or sales process Be there after the sale for any of your needs after the sale.

  • 4. What are the steps of a boat transaction?

    A typical purchase would go like this:

    • Find the yacht/boat that is the correct fit for you and your needs.
    • Arrange showing and check it out.
    • Make offer along with any contingencies.
    • Once offer is accepted and deposit is made move onto inspection period.
    • Perform an independent marine survey by accredited marine surveyor of the buyers choice.
    • If survey findings are acceptable move onto closing.
    • Hands on training and familiarizing of the operation of your new boat for you or your captain and or crew.
  • 5. How does a broker earn money for their service?

    A yacht brokers pay is commission based, which is generated from the sales end of the transaction.
